The average American family faces much financial stress and pressure. Bills and debt mount up to a point where it seems that there is no way out. As Christians, it’s good to know that God has provided some timeless principles to help us not only survive, but even thrive, financially.
Often, we can find ourselves living in, what could be called, the land of “ing”. This is a lifestyle where work-“ing”, and earn-“ing”, and buy-“ing”, and struggle-“ing” dominates the landscape. God’s remedy to living in the land of “ing” is found when He adds his “bless” to our “ing”. Now, this isn’t something that happens automatically. We have to make a choice to move from the land of “ing” to a place we’ll call “The Sweet Spot”. It’s in this place of blessing that we can find prosperity and peace of mind- spiritually and financially.
We enter “The Sweet Spot” when we understand that, to be blessed, we have to take a step of faith and honor God with the first fruits of our labors. You see, it’s not that God needs our money, but that He wants to bless those who obey Him.
There are several reasons that God desires us to become givers. First, scripture tells us that "God so loved the world, He gave..," so when we give, we are actually becoming more like Him. The next thing giving does is it draws us closer to God. Matthew 6:21 states, "Where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also." If we purpose to be a giver, it shows our heart to be set on God. Finally, when we
give, we are greatly blessed in return. Proverbs 22:9 tells us, "A generous man himself will be blessed." As we are careful to "sow" blessings into the kingdom of God, He will be sure we "reap" a blessing in
our own lives.
